Linda Merieau, Board President of The LINK and Founder of A Better Partnership (ABP) was invited to speak at a media event entitled ‘Worth 100 Men: Identifying the Role of Media in Women’s Empowerment’. The event was organized by Swiss-based Womanity Foundation (www.womanity.org), an independent private organization established in 2005 to empower women to shape their future and accelerate progress within their communities.
The luncheon debate drew the perspectives of prominent women from the UAE’s business world and media landscape. The participants included Khuloud Hasan Al Nuwais, Chief Sustainability Officer, Emirates Foundation; Nada Askar, Manager of Women Sports Department, Sharjah Ladies Club; Taghrid Alsaeed, Head of Digital Communications Group Communications, Mubadla; Salma Sakhnini, Entrepreneur and Managing Director; Cyba Audi, Principal, Saba Consultants; Mona Tavasooli, Founder, Mom Souq & Mompreneur Middle East, and Zareen, Founder, Woman2Woman Business Council. Nivine Afiouni, Editor, Skynewsarabia, moderated the event that was organised in conjunction with Dubai Business Women Council at The Address – Dubai Marina.
The panelists called upon women to achieve their personal and professional commitments through leveraging the strong female support networks worldwide, including in the Middle East, and the opportunities to communicate and connect via the media. Linda Merieau commented on the need for women to provide each other with the support they need through mentoring. “Women take many more things into consideration when making career choices than men whether it is their spouse, children, parents, or societal pressures. Women have to balance a professional life with immense personal responsibilities which is not the norm for men anywhere,” she said. “We should support each other in these important life and career decisions, yet women also have a tendency to judge each other hindering our own progress. The LINK will provide an important vehicle in the UAE to give women that support network we need to advance professionally in a nurturing environment.”
